Leonard Peltier is an Indigenous activist and member of the American Indian Movement (AIM) who has spent over four decades in prison for a crime many believe he did not commit. Free Leonard Peltier explores the controversial 1975 shooting of two FBI agents on the Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota for which Peltier was convicted, despite questions surrounding the fairness of his trial and his claims of innocence.

Through interviews, archival footage, and expert testimonies, Free Leonard Peltier delves into the systemic issues of racial injustice, government oppression, and the struggles faced by Native American communities. The documentary also sheds light on Peltier’s unwavering resilience and his legal battle for freedom, as well as the international movement that has rallied for his release over the years. A deeply emotional and thought-provoking exploration, Free Leonard Peltier calls for justice and human rights, offering a critical lens on the flaws within the U.S. legal system and the continued fight for Indigenous rights.
